Aromatherapy Treatment for Health and Well-Being

According to an article posted on the Aromatherapy Consortium website:

"Aromatherapy is now used to treat a whole range of conditions and is believed to work on people both physically and psychologically. The first part of the theory is that when you smell an essential oil, it triggers your limbic system - the part of the brain that controls emotions and stores and retrieves learned memories - and relaxes you.

The other part of the theory is that the oils are absorbed through the skin, and have medicinal properties which act on the cause of the problem."

Also with the same article is a summary of some of the conditions that can be treated with aromatherapy:

"Just some of the conditions aromatherapy is useful to treat are:

  • anxiety, stress or insomnia
  • muscular aches and pains
  • headaches
  • asthma
  • eczema
  • digestive problems
  • menstrual or menopausal problems"

This article was posted on the Aromatherapy Consortium website in July 2004. With the potential to treat so many conditions effectively it's easy to understand why using an aromatherapy treatment is becoming ever more popular.

Over the last few years, aromatherapy has become one of the fastest growing areas of medicinal treatment. In the United States an aromatherapy treatment is mainly considered a complimentary treatment, however, in certain countries in Europe and Asia an aromatherpy treatment has become a conventional medical treatment with some of the essential oils being regulated.

An aromatherapy treatment is a more holistic approach to medicine that uses the oils derived from plant extracts to treat an array of conditions. The essential oils are added to the bath or massaged into the skin, inhaled directly or diffused to scent an entire room depending on the type of aromatherapy treatment and desired result.

Essential oils are best known for their ability to promote well-being by:

  • reducing anxiety
  • alleviating fatigue
  • improving skin conditions
  • and promoting relaxation

At this point, an aromatherapy treatment seems to be the most effective on minor medical conditions like stress-related illnesses, skin irritations and digestive problems. There has yet to be any concrete scientific evidence that it can cure any major disease or illness, however, it has been recognized an aromatherapy treatment can help to substantially relieve the stress of those people suffering from these diseases or illnesses.

Aromatherpy treatments have been proven to help with a vast array of conditions and are being more accepted into mainstream medicine everyday. You will likely find some type of aromatherapy treatment available for almost any condition.

Even though an aromatherapy treatment may not be able to cure all illnesses, the medical profession is realizing it's value in helping patients cope with their condition or illness.
